There has been ongoing consultation process that has preceded this Draft. Whilst I have participated in online forums and lodged comments, unfortunately in my view most of those involved know little or nothing about the maritime aspect.
Vehicle and Pedestrian access is of course extremely important and I feel the initial plan that I was involved in several years ago produced the most appropriate plan that we have today. It will always be a focal point for locals and tourists and pressure on roads around this area will be busy, however, the current situation does work and generally flows. Clearly in my view, the agenda for most people involved in process to-date revolved around commercialisation of this area and not best interests of Maritime and in particular trailered boats.
My main concern is the option to move the Boat ramp to eastern/sea aspect near helipad, which I feel will lead to an unworkable and “gridlock” situation and other issues.
There is no parking on that side with Rock Pool participants already occupying all available spaces. The length of time for the driver to park trailer in the boat trailer parking area is not practical and will be “long haul” and time consuming to get back to boat etc.
The proposed Break wall will be extremely costly and possibly never get built?
Maritime (Transport NSW) has produced a DRAFT plan for Kiama Harbour that is attached to our Website.
You have the opportunity to comment by e-mailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
You may also indicate if you wish to be part of consultation process. No comment=no input. At this point in time, I feel I am a lone voice.
Cut-off date to comment is 5th march 2021.
I will continue as part of the consultation process of course in my capacity as President of our Club and as a Kiama Councillor.
